Monday Message Review
March 16, 2015
Let’s start this week by reading Colossians 3:9-14:
“Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
In Man Church last night the statement was made, “Instead of asking, ‘What do I need to get done?’ ask, ‘Who do I want to become?’” That simple question brings great clarity and perspective.
Paul tells us in Colossians 3, “Put on the new man. Put on kindness and mercy, long-suffering and love.”
This is hard.
It’s much easier to say, “Accept me the way that I am. I’m a grumpy morning person, that’s just the way that I am. I’m driven, that’s just the way I am….”
Paul counters, “Put off that old man and put on the new.”
We have a choice.
We are to put on Jesus Christ as Romans 13:14 says we are to do. We don’t do it perfectly. We put on the personality of Jesus to the best of our ability.
We all get to decide what we put on. We can put on the persona of a jock, a boater, an entrepreneur, a good ol’ boy, a socialite, etc. We get to choose the part we’ll play today and in the end we become the role we choose.
You get to choose who you’ll be today. Don’t make the wrong choice and pick the wrong part. Pick Christ! Put him on today!
