READ: Matthew 26:1-4

When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, “As you know, Passover begins in two days, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”

At that same time the leading priests and elders were meeting at the residence of Caiaphas, the high priest, plotting how to capture Jesus secretly and kill him.

REFLECT:

  • Why do you think the Chief Priest and elders of the people wanted to plot and arrest Jesus? What had Jesus done wrong?
  • Although Jesus was without sin (had done nothing wrong), he allowed himself to be handed over to be crucified. Why would he do this?
  • Have you ever considered that Jesus died for the very people that killed him?
  • Think about a time you were punished because of someone else's misbehavior or wrongdoing. How did you feel?  How do you think Jesus must have felt knowing these leaders of the government were going to plot and kill him?

RESPOND: Identify someone who has been mean to you or betrayed you.  Write their name down and put it somewhere to remind you to pray for them each day this week.  Forgive them as Jesus has forgiven you.
